Coordinator of School Transportation I

The Suffern Central School District is seeking a talented, dedicated, and collaborative leader to fill a vacancy for Coordinator of School Transportation..  

This is a full time (12 month position).

Job Qualifications

Rockland County Civil Service Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and six (6) years of paid administrative or management experience in the field of transportation, one (1) year of which must have involved passenger movement and one (1) year of which must have included planning vehicle routes and scheduling drivers. The specialized experience may be gained concurrently. 

NOTE: 

A Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Public Administration or related field or a field related to transportation may be substituted for four (4) years of general experience. 

In addition to the above, the ideal applicant MUST meet the following required knowledge, skills, abilities and attributes.  

  • Must have thorough knowledge of laws, regulations, standards and safety practices applicable to the transportation of school children;

  • Ability to plan, coordinate and direct a pupil transportation system including transportation of public and private school students, students with disabilities, as well as transportation for educational, athletic or other special trips; 

  • Ability to present oral and written reports in clear and concise language; 

  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships;

  • Experience in the development of bus routes and bus stops; 

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to responds to and resolve community issues; 

  • Experience and ability to coordinate required bus safety trainings; 

  • Experience and ability to prepare preliminary budget estimates for the transportation program; 

  • Ability to prepare reports as required;
